Bridgeport Art Center Announces New Exhibitions Program

The management of Bridgeport Art Center (BAC) announces that it is collaborating with resident artist Lelde Kalmite to develop a new program of curated art exhibitions, beginning November 2012.

For several years, BAC has offered gallery space to artists who rent studios in the East Bank Storage facility at 35th street and Racine in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago. In order to strengthen the exhibitions program and to offer more opportunities to Bridgeport and Chicago area artists, a larger and more diverse program of exhibitions is being planned for the coming year.

The new program will be launched with an art competition open to all adult artists living within 100 miles of Chicago.  Bridgeport Art Center will underwrite the competition with $3,000 in prizes, to be awarded by distinguished jurors Marva Jolly and Thomas McCormick on January 5th during the opening reception for the show.

Lelde Kalmite (www.leldekalmite.com) has curated and installed nearly 100 exhibitions and has served on Illinois Arts Council and Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs review panels. She has an MFA from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. (art education) from the University of Minnesota.
